When you upgrade a plan at any given time, the system will calculate the prorated price to make sure you're not overpaying. Also, if there is anything that will be refunded to your account, VNIS will refund it in the form of a credit note.
To illustrate, let’s give you an example.
Let's say you are on the Developer plan (USD 0 / month). You purchased China DNS add-ons (USD 100 / month) on September 1. Then you plan to upgrade to the Business plan (USD 500 / month) on September 14th. Within September 1 to 14, you incurred 210k China DNS queries.
Before upgrade calculation
First, the system will calculate the “per day charge” from the lower-tier (current) plan. The calculation will look like this:

Days finished within the month: 14 days
Days remaining before end of the month: 30 - 14 = 16 days -
Developer Plan:
Developer plan cost: USD 0.00 / month
Per day cost: USD 0.00 / 30 days = 0.00 / day
USD 0.00 / day * 14 days = USD 0.00 (used) -
China DNS:
China DNS cost: USD 100 / month
Per day cost: USD 100.00 / 30 days = USD 3.33 / day
USD 3.33 / day * 14 days = USD 46.62 (used)
USD 100.00 - USD 46.62 = USD 53.38 (for refund) -
China DNS queries:
China DNS queries cost (for developer plan):
0-10k: USD 0.00 (FREE)
10k-100m: USD 30.00 per mil
Free China DNS queries: 10k * 14 days / 30 days = 4.67k (free requests used)
(210k - 4.67k) * USD 30.00 / 1 mil = USD 6.16 (used)
Refund (for Developer plan): USD 0.00 + USD 53.38 - USD 6.16 = USD 47.22 (in the form of free credit)
After upgrade calculation
Next, the system will calculate the per day charge of the higher-tier (new) plan. The calculation will look like this:

Business plan cost: USD 500.00 / month
Per day cost: USD 500.00 / 30 days = 16.67 / day
USD 16.67 / day * 16 days = USD 266.67 (to be paid) -
China DNS:
China DNS cost: USD 0.00 / month
Per day cost: USD 0.00 / 30 days = USD 0.00 / day
USD 0.00 / day * 16 days = USD 0.00 (for refund) -
China DNS queries:
China DNS queries cost (for developer plan):
0-100k: USD 0.00 (FREE)
100k-100m: USD 30.00 per mil
Free China DNS queries: 100k * 16 days / 30 days = 53.33k (free to use)
Charge (for Business plan): USD 266.67 - USD 0.00 = USD 266.67
Given this example, you will get a USD 47.22 refund, and you'll be charged USD 266.67 upon upgrade. You also have 53.33k of free China DNS queries that you can use.
Net payment: USD 219.45 (with 53.33k free China DNS queries).
