How to configure my DNS provider for CNAME setup?

If you're having trouble adding a CNAME record via your DNS provider, this guide will walk you through the process via some of the common DNS providers. Please find your DNS provider below and follow the process to complete the configuration. 

If you cannot find your DNS provider below, please reach out to us.

Before you go further, here are some quick explanations of the commonly used terminology used in the guide below. This will give you a better idea of what they mean and how they look like:

CNAME setup

  • Your domain: Depending on what you added on VNIS, either a root domain (e.g. example.com) or a subdomain (e.g. www.example.com)

If you're configuring for a  root domain, enter '@' or leave blank (this may vary depending on the DNS provider, please double before proceeding)

in the case of a subdomain, enter only the subdomain (e.g. if the domain you have on VNIS is www.example.com, then enter 'www').

  • VNIS assigned CNAME: During the CNAME setup process, the system will assign a unique CNAME. You can check here for more details. 

Find your DNS provider

AWS Route53

  1. Access your DNS via Amazon Route53
  2. Tick the checkbox next to the domain you added on VNIS
  3. From the top menu, select 'Go To Record Sets'
  4. From the top menu, select 'Create Record Sets'

CNAME setup

  1. Fill in the sections as follows:
    • Name: Your domain
    • Type: CNAME
    • TTL (seconds): Leave the TTL value as is
    • Value: VNIS assigned CNAME
  2. Click 'Create Record Set'

AWS Route 53 does not support "APEX CNAME" (or ANAME, ALIAS). Learn more.

Cloudflare

  1. Select the site you're using for your service
  2. Click the 'DNS' tab
  3. Click 'Add record'

CNAME setup

  1. Select 'CNAME' under 'Type'
  2. In the new row that appears, enter the following information:
    • Host: Your domain
    • Points to: VNIS assigned CNAME
    • TTL: Leave the TTL value as is
  3. At the top or the bottom of the page, select the 'Save Zone File' button
  4. Click 'OK'

ClouDNS

  1. Access your 'DNS zone management' page
  2. Find the zone you'd like to use for your domain
  3. Click on the 'Add new record' button

CNAME setup

  1. Choose 'CNAME'
  2. Enter the following:
    • Type: CNAME
    • TTL: 1 Hour
    • Host: Your domain
    • Points to: VNIS assigned CNAME

Constellix

Select 'Managed DNS' and select 'Domains' from the dropdown menu

CNAME setup

  1. Select the domain you want to add an ANAME record
  2. Click the (+) icon to add a record
  3. Enter the following:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: Your domain
    • TTL: 86400
    • Record mode: Standard
    • Geo Proximity: None
    • IP Filter: None
    • Disable Record: Do not check
    • FQDN/Host: VNIS assigned CNAME
    • Notes: Add a helpful note with keywords so you can search for your records later
  4. Click 'Save And Close' or 'Save And Continue'

GoDaddy

  1. Scroll down to the 'All Products and Services‘ section and click 'DNS'
  2. Click the 'Add' button below the list of existing records
CNAME setup
  1. Under the 'Type' dropdown, select 'Nameserver'
  2. Enter the following information:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Host: Your domain
    • Points to: VNIS assigned CNAME
    • TTL: Leave the TTL value as is
  3. Click 'Save'

GoDaddy does not support "APEX CNAME" (or ANAME, ALIAS). Learn more.

Google Cloud DNS

  1. Access your account via Google Cloud DNS
  2. Go to 'Network services' > 'Cloud DNS'
  3. Click the zone where you want to add a recordset

CNAME setup

  1. Click 'Add record set' and enter the following information:
    • DNS Name: Your domain
    • Resource Record Type: CNAME
    • TTL: Leave the TTL value as is
    • Canonical name: VNIS assigned CNAME
  2. Click 'Create'

Google Cloud DNS does not support "APEX CNAME" (or ANAME, ALIAS). Learn more.

NS1

  1. Open the 'Zones' tab in the NS1 portal
  2. Click the name of the zone to which you want to add a record

CNAME setup

Click the 'Add Record' button on the bottom left side of the screen and enter the following information:

  • Record Type: CNAME
  • Name: Your domain
  • TTL: Leave the TTL value as is
  • Answers: VNIS assigned CNAME

Namecheap

  1. Access your account via Namecheap
  2. Select 'Domain List' from the left side menu
  3. Click the 'Manage' button next to your domain
  4. Navigate to the 'Advanced DNS' tab

CNAME setup

  1. Click the 'Add New Record' button in the 'Host Records' section and enter the following information:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Host: Your domain
    • Value: VNIS assigned CNAME
    • TTL: Leave the TTL value as is
  2. Click 'Save All Changes'
