What is Multi CDN Analytics?

VNIS Multi CDN Analytics is a collection of interactive and easily visualizable charts that monitors real-time traffic, requests, and caching rates of all the CDNs installed by the user.

It is a powerful tool that provides insights about CDNs activities to help users make informed decisions to identify which CDN is being used the most in a given region and to create routing policies that users need to apply to optimize the CDN orchestration strategy.

You can access Multi CDN analytics by navigating to ‘ Analytics’ > ‘Multi CDN’.

You need to set the target domain from the ‘ Operation level panel’.

Multi CDN Analytics has 2 sets of charts:

  1. Traffic analytics chart
  2. Request analytics chart

Traffic analytics charts

The Multi CDN traffic charts monitor traffic metrics passing through activated CDN for a given domain. Specifically, this chart tracks:

  • Total bytes
  • Origin bytes
  • Hit rate
  • Geo data

Total bytes: total CDN traffic (cached and missed) from CDN edge nodes to the client (in bytes)

Origin bytes: total CDN traffic from user's origin to CDN edge nodes (in bytes)

Hit rate: CDN hit rate = Cache bytes / (Cache bytes + Miss bytes) (in percent)

Geo data: total CDN traffic for each country (in bytes)

Note:
Cache bytes = CDN traffic from cached content in CDN edge nodes (in bytes)
Miss bytes = CDN traffic from “uncached” content in CDN edge nodes (in bytes)
Different CDNs have different Miss byte definitions.

Request analytics charts

The Multi CDN request charts monitor request metrics passing through activated CDN for a given domain. Specifically, this chart tracks:

  • Total request
  • Origin request
  • Hit rate
  • Geo data

Total request: total CDN request (cached and missed) from CDN edge nodes to the client

Origin request: total CDN request from user's origin to CDN edge nodes

Hit rate: CDN hit rate = Cache request / (Cache request + Miss request) (in percent)

Geo data: total CDN traffic for each country.

Note:
Cache request = CDN request from cached content in CDN edge nodes
Miss request = CDN request from “uncached” content in CDN edge nodes
Different CDNs have different Miss byte definitions.

Chart Controls

Date range: You can specify the range of the date of the Multi CDN Analytics charts by accessing the date range on the top right of the chart.

The chart will display data for 7 days (1 week) range by default, but you can set the date range from 1 day to 30 days (1 month).

Refresh chart: You can refresh and update the chart by clicking the ‘Refresh’ icon on top of the chart.

Data presentation: You can plot data of individual CDNs separately (Divide) or plot data of all CDNs additively (Summary).

Quick Actions

Together with Quick Actions, Multi CDN Analytics not only gives users visual actionable insights but also easily guides users to the next possible actions to take right after analyzing the insights.

Users can easily set routing strategies, avail of other CDNs, install private beacon, etc. based on the actionable insights they got from the analytics.
