What is the difference between content delivery network and dynamic delivery network?

In this article, we will discuss the 2 types of delivery networks, namely:

  • Content Delivery Network
  • Dynamic Delivery Network

Content Delivery Network

Content delivery network is a network connecting a CDN and an end-user. This network provides health and performance data of a CDN.

Since static websites rely mostly on cached content to improve their performance, collecting and monitoring data from the content delivery network will provide a better estimate of how well a static website is performing. For this reason, the content delivery network is considered to be the source of data suitable for static websites, or simply referred to as “static data feed”.

Dynamic Delivery Network

Dynamic delivery network is a network connecting the origin and the end-user, through a CDN. This network provides health and performance data of the origin through a specified CDN.

Since, dynamic websites rely mostly on communicating directly to the origin to improve their performance, collecting and monitoring data from the dynamic delivery network will provide a better estimate of how well a dynamic website is performing. For this reason, the dynamic delivery network is considered to be the source of data suitable for dynamic websites, or simply referred to as “dynamic data feed”.

As a summary, in order to obtain data and actionable insights targeted to improve the performance of your static website or dynamic website, you need to collect and monitor data from the appropriate data feed.
