What is the difference between Static Data and Dynamic Data?

In this article, we will discuss the 2 types of data being collected based on which delivery network data feed they were collected from. The 2 types of data are:

  • Static Data
  • Dynamic Data

Static Data

Static data are performance and availability data obtained from the content delivery network or static data feed.

Since static websites rely mostly on cached content to improve their performance, collecting and monitoring static data (from the content delivery network) will provide a better estimate of how well a static website is performing. For this reason, the static data is considered to be the more appropriate data to collect to gain insights on how static websites are performing.

Dynamic Data

Dynamic data are performance and availability data obtained from the dynamic delivery network or dynamic data feed.

Since, dynamic websites rely mostly on communicating directly to the origin to improve its performance, collecting and monitoring dynamic data (from the dynamic delivery network) will provide a better estimate of how well a dynamic website is performing. For this reason, the dynamic data is considered to be the appropriate data to collect to gain insights on how dynamic websites are performing.

As a summary, in order to obtain data and actionable insights targeted to improve the performance of your static website or dynamic website, you need to collect and monitor appropriate data.
