What is "Pulse”?

VNIS Pulse is a collection of interactive charts that displays real-time performance and availability data of all CDN providers we partnered with, collected via RUM and synthetic monitoring. 

It is a powerful tool to help you make informed decisions when deciding on the most reliable CDN that can boost your website performance globally or in any of your target regions in the world.

You can access Pulse by navigating to ‘ DEM’ > ‘Pulse’.

Pulse has two main charts: 

• Static Pulse 
• Dynamic Pulse

Static Pulse vs Dynamic Pulse

The main difference between Static Pulse and Dynamic Pulse is their data feed or delivery network where the data is collected.

As described in this article, there are 2 types of delivery networks, namely Content delivery network and dynamic delivery network.

Content delivery network is a network connecting a CDN and an end-user, hence providing health and performance data of a CDN. While dynamic delivery network is a network connecting the origin and the end-user, through a CDN, hence providing health and performance data of the origin through a specified CDN.

Given the above description, Static Pulse collects data from a content delivery network and provides performance and availability insights of all the CDN providers we partnered with. While Dynamic Pulse collects data from a dynamic delivery network and provides performance and availability insights of a “default origin” through all the CDN providers we partnered with. 

Static Pulse and Dynamic Pulse, each of them also has two sub-charts:

• Latency chart 
• Availability chart.

Latency chart

You can access the latency chart by clicking the ‘Latency’ tab.

This chart immediately shows you the latency data of all the supported CDNs. Users can easily see which CDN has the best latency.

Performance data is presented by plotting latency (or RTT) in milliseconds vs. the given timeframe. The default chart shows the global latency data of your selected CDNs for the last 7 days.

You can check the CDN being presented in the CDN list below the chart.

Availability chart

You can access the availability chart by clicking the ‘Availability’ tab.

This chart immediately shows you the availability data of all the supported CDNs. Users can easily see which CDN has the best availability and which one is failing.

Availability data is presented by plotting availability in percent vs. the given timeframe. The default chart shows the global availability data of your selected CDNs for the last 7 days.

Enhanced performance monitoring of Pulse via RUM

Users have the option to install the “Beacon code” on their website to activate the RUM feature. The collected data will be available on Pulse once real user activities are recorded.
